Volunteering at Camp Sparkle
Volunteer Camp Counselors are the backbone of Camp Sparkle! Every summer we look for motivated and enthusiastic young adults to assist our Head Counselors with supervising and spending time with our amazing campers! This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with their own cancer experience to give back to the community. Come spend a week laughing, playing capture the flag and eating grilled cheese!
Primary Responsibilities and Qualifications:
• Assist Head Counselor with building supportive relationships with campers.
• Commit to entire week of camp. Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm.
• Attend volunteer counselor training in June.
• Understand and comply with Camp Sparkle safety and behavioral policies.
• Attend all field trips and participate in all camp activities.
• Assist with set-up and clean-up of camp lunches, snacks and supplies when needed.
• Must be 16+ years old.
Volunteer Junior Counselors
In addition to our volunteer camp counselors, we also seek junior volunteer counselors who are younger than 17, but have a strong interest in working with kids who have been impacted by cancer. These volunteers will be paired with an experienced camp counselor in order to start developing the skills necessary to be a camp counselor in the future. They will be asked to complete the same volunteer training and will report to their assigned counselor, as well as the Camp Director. They will not be responsible for the same expectations as counselors, but instead will assist the counselors in engaging the campers and participating in the camp activities. We have capacity for 3-5 junior volunteers per camp location and ask that they commit to the entire week of camp.
Camp Sparkle has a great need for volunteers to help with set-up, lunches, clean-up and more. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Family Program Manager at 206-709-1400. We also always look for people with skills like photography, videography, cooking, graphic design, etc. to donate their time and skills. Get in touch if you want to help!
