MLK Day of Service: Sellen Construction

January 20, 2021

On Martin Luther King Jr Day, a team from Sellen Construction came to spend the day volunteering at our Clubhouse.

For most of 2020, our staff has been working remotely, so the Clubhouse has been in need of a little pick-me-up. The front porch, with its gorgeous pillars and signature red door, has been collecting garbage and debris. Our parking lot has been similarly used as a dumping ground for passers-by, and the ongoing issue of graffiti has continued. Sellen volunteers not only transformed our parking lot and front porch, but they painted over all of the graffiti.

Inside the Clubhouse, the team cleaned and reorganized the basement, which many of you will remember as the home of ‘Noogieland’, our program for children with cancer in their family.

The volunteers assembled new shelving and cleared out old, unusable equipment. Between the outside and inside, they filled two pickup trucks with clutter to take away. Thank you!

Here’s the most incredible part. After spending all day working to restore beauty and dignity to our beloved Clubhouse, the volunteers from Sellen told Anna, our Executive Director: “Thank you for letting us help”. They shared plans and ideas for future projects and intentions to return.

We are blown away by your kindness and generosity. Thank you, Sellen Construction!
