Our Story

Cancer Pathways has been walking alongside people facing cancer since 2001. We’re a Seattle-based nonprofit offering free support groups, education programs, and community resources to patients, caregivers, family members, and friends in Washington state and virtually nationwide. With over half a million lives touched, we’re on our way to reaching one million.

No referral needed. No cost. Ever.

Testimonials from our community

At Cancer Pathways, connection is at the heart of everything we do. Read what our community members have to say about finding community, strength, and hope through our programs.

“The world does not stop because somebody you love has cancer or because you have cancer. It just keeps going. Being able to be with other families who are experiencing the same thing is amazing, and that’s the best gift that you can get. And to have the kids be a part of our therapy group — that’s a really great thing.”

– Camp Sparkle Family Member

Camp Sparkle is a free summer day camp for kids and teens impacted by cancer, whether through a personal diagnosis or a loved one’s. Campers learn about cancer, join therapeutic activities, go on field trips, and connect with others who truly understand.

“I didn’t think I’d be able to laugh again, but doing this improv stuff has been life-changing. I get why they say laughter is the best medicine, but man, it’s so much more. Don’t let it go to your head!”

– Best Medicine Group Member

Best Medicine is a free support group for cancer patients, caregivers, survivors, and medical providers who gather to socialize and find healing through laughter and humor. Facilitated by Glenn Rockowitz, a former SNL writer and comedian. This group meets every other Thursday, 6:00–7:30pm via Zoom.

“Writing this essay gives me hope for others who share a similar experience. It gives me relief that a situation like this doesn’t always have to be so terrible and that good things can come from it.”

– Teen Writing Contest Participant

The Teen Writing Contest invites 9th–12th graders to share their experience with cancer through a short personal essay, whether it’s their own diagnosis or a loved one’s. Since 2006, we’ve received over 15,000 submissions and awarded more than $370,000 in prizes to teens across the country.

“Thank you for giving me this experience of being able to learn more about types of cancer. In the future, I’m going to start taking precautions like checking my vaccinations, not smoking, and also protecting myself from the sun. And I’m going to tell my friends.”

– Thank You Note from Student, Cancer Happens

Cancer Happens® is a free, K–12 cancer prevention and risk-reduction curriculum delivered in schools across the country. Trained health educators lead 45–50 minute sessions covering topics like cancer risk factors, HPV vaccination, sun safety, and family history. Lesson plans and online courses are also available for teachers at no cost.

“Thank you so, so much for all your help, support, and care packages. I learned a lot in these sessions to help support with triggers, stress management, etc. You guys are rockstars making a real impact. I can’t thank you enough!”
