Like many organizations, we started 2022 with much uncertainty. We were faced with having to adjust to a “new normal” as a result of the pandemic. Despite this, we persevered and had such a successful year – expanding our programs, adding new staff members, and innovatively implementing our events and programs in-person and virtually. Our 10 biggest program successes in 2022 ✨
1. Secured a grant from the American Heart Association to increase our impact on vaping and tobacco education across Washington state ????
2. Launched a podcast called EnCOMPASSing Cancer where we chat with those impacted by cancer, caregivers, community members, and medical professionals. We’ve had over 1,000 downloads and produced 20 episodes, plus one bonus episode! ????
3. Developed materials for Cancer Prevention Month, including a teen guide to cancer risk factors and a resource for parents on how they can help their teens prevent cancer. ????
4. Received a community grant from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center to lead HPV prevention and educational efforts in rural communities in Washington state (Project C.H.A.M.P.). ????
5. Partnered with Bloodworks Northwest for two, two-week long blood donation campaigns. ????
6. Our teen education program, Cancer Happens, went to over 160 classrooms. ????????????
7. We received 705 essays from over 560 high schools from across the country for our Cancer Unwrapped teen writing contest. ????
8. We worked alongside state representatives to implement two state-wide cancer awareness days in Georgia serving over 400 community members. ????
9. Supported over 120 campers at 5 different locations in Western Washington through the magic of Camp Sparkle. We also started our Sparkle Saturday programming again to provide the camp experience year round! ????
10. Launched several new partnerships, including one with Jasper Health – a digital app that helps cancer patients and their caregivers better manage and keep track of their care. ????
